Part 141 Certification, and Why It Matters to You
Five Star Flight is an FAA-certified Part 141 flight school. That is not a badge — it means the FAA has approved our syllabus and audits our training and pass rates.
For a student, the practical difference is sixty hours. A commercial certificate requires 250 hours under Part 61 and 190 hours under Part 141. At typical Capital Region rates that difference is worth well over ten thousand dollars, which is the single strongest argument for training in a structured program.
Students who need flexibility can still train under Part 61, but everyone here follows the same Part 141 syllabus.

The SUNY Schenectady Partnership
Our partnership with SUNY Schenectady lets students complete an Associate’s Degree in Aviation Science while doing their flight training with us. It is the reason a number of our own instructors are here — they came through the program as students and stayed.
It also changes the economics of learning to fly. Students on the pathway pay a lower hourly rate and fund their flying through a semester lab fee, typically covering 55 hours of flight time.
