Our partnership with SUNY Schenectady allows students to pursue an Associates Degree in Aviation Science while taking flight lessons. This provides a cost-effective, local aviation college program through which students can go from no flight experience to commercial pilot.
Classes are designed to be taken alongside flight lessons conducted under Part 141. This provides students with a high level of ground and flight knowledge, which is then directly applied to their flight training. Our FAA-certified Part 141 training program provides a well-structured, standardized training curriculum, and allows students to obtain their certificates in less time than traditional Part 61 flight training.
This course includes ground classes applicable to the Private, Instrument, and Commercial courses provided at Five Star. Additionally, students will attend classes in Aviation Law, Meteorology, Flight Safety, and have the option to attend Intro to Flight Instruction.
Our location in Schenectady places us in the heart of New York’s Capital Region. Students will experience operations at the nearby Albany Intl Airport, mountainous terrain in the nearby Adirondacks and Catskill Ranges, and small runways with varying levels of traffic.
We are partnered with SUNY Schenectady’s Aviation Science Program. Flight students who partake in this program will receive in-depth ground instruction in a variety of aviation-related topics. This ensures our pilots not only have excellent “stick-and-rudder” skills, but also obtain a high level of knowledge beyond that of your average pilot.
A strong fleet of 8 Piper PA-28s ensures our students are able to keep flying year-round. A Piper PA-28R-201 provides the complex training required to obtain a Commercial Pilot Certificate.
Above all else, our pilots and instructors come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Whether your goal is to learn to fly your own light plane, or fly left seat in a Boeing 747, the decades of combined experience our team holds is sure to provide the highest level of training.
Your future as a pilot is cleared for takeoff! All students start with an introductory flight. This is usually no more than one hour, and provides the student a chance to observe the flying environment, and take controls of an airplane for the first time. From there, if the student desires, flight training towards the Private Pilot Certificate commences.
