Minimum Hours:

The minimum flight time required to obtain a certificate depends on which section of the Federal Airmen Regulations (FARs) the training was conducted under. For the Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), the minimum is 40 hours under Part 61, or 35 hours under Part 141.

Training at Five Star:

Five Star is an FAA-certified Part 141 flight school. Students may be trained under Part 61 depending on their specific needs.

All of our students follow the same Part 141 training syllabus, ensuring timely completion of all required aeronautical knowledge and skills in each flight lesson. This also helps keep students aware of their progress.

Keeping the Cost of Training Down:

Here are some tips to help ensure students complete their training within their budgetary constraints:

• Read the syllabus before each lesson
• Study the subjects listed in the syllabus listed under “Study Assignment” before the next flight lesson
• Bring all required materials/resources to each lesson (list of materials can be found here)
• Study the Airmen Certification Standards (ACS) before starting the last stage of training for each certificate
• Write down any questions you may have on the material of a lesson & ask your CFI when the lesson begins
• Practice “chair flying” maneuvers and procedures- this will help you be more mentally prepared for the maneuver in the actual airplane, making it easier to become proficient​​
